Launching June 2026 · Limited first batch

The backpack your kid keeps designing.

Children's tastes shift faster than they outgrow their shoes. Rainbows today, space tomorrow, next week it's foxes. Patchel's swappable patch system means the bag changes with them. Kids do the swapping themselves, in seconds.

No spam. Launch announcement, the occasional patch peek, and a heads-up before we open.

The Patchel pink holdall backpack with embroidered patches

You know how this goes. Three weeks ago your child was obsessed with space. Wanted to wear it, talk about it, carry the space-themed backpack you were so excited to give them. Now they've moved on to superheroes. The space backpack sits by the front door, forgotten about like all the other things that no longer fit the new phase. It's impossible to keep up.

The Real Reason

It's not your child being fickle.
It's curiosity, growth, and figuring out who they are.

Young children are constantly discovering new interests. Dinosaurs, dolls, space, bugs, baking. Their preferences can shift as quickly as their minds grow. Often they go back to old interests and explore them in a new way. It's beautiful to watch, and something we nurture.

There's also something else going on. Kids bond more deeply with the things they help shape than the things they're just handed. The more a child puts their own stamp on something, the longer they keep loving it.

The problem: every backpack on the market is finished the moment it's bought. There are few bags that children can continue to customise and make their own as they grow.

You've probably tried the usual fixes. Embroidered names, character bags, iron-on patches, a new bag every year. But the same thing happens. They get bored of the bag.

What if the bag could keep changing as fast as they do?

Today: butterflies. Tomorrow: rockets. By Friday: a cute croissant. (You didn't see the croissant coming.)

Why parents are switching

Less waste. Calmer mornings. A bag they actually love.

♾️

One bag, years of use

Built to outlast every phase, every theme, every school year. Refresh the design, not the bag.

☀️

Calmer mornings

A ten-second customisation ritual replaces a ten-minute "I don't want to wear it anymore" tantrum.

🧒

Independence they earn

Kids swap patches themselves. Small, repeatable acts of choice and ownership add up.

🌱

Less stuff, more value

Made with recycled polyester and cotton webbing. Kinder to the planet, designed to be loved for longer, then passed on when the adventures are over.

🎁

Giftable forever

Every aunt, uncle and grandparent now has the easiest gift in the world: a new patch they'll actually use.

🛡️

Built like it matters

Durable, water-resistant, kind to small shoulders. Not the cheap kind that falls apart by half-term.

A note from the founder

"I wanted a bag that could grow with him."

It started when I was shopping for my son's first nursery bag. He was one. Not yet obsessed with crashing toy cars or learning about space, but fully committed to causing chaos in cupboards and climbing everything in sight.

The bag needed to carry all the usual bits and pieces. But everything I looked at felt uninspiring. I chose one knowing he'd outgrow it quickly. That's when the idea for Patchel started.

I wanted something that could grow with him, from his first interests through every obsession still to come. Something he could shape himself. Made with care, from recycled polyester and cotton, because I wanted it to be kinder to the planet too. And when his adventures are over, it can pass on, so another can begin.

There's a moment we keep seeing in testing. A child mixes and matches their patches (their combination, no one else's) and their face lights up at the bag that suddenly feels like theirs. That's the moment we're trying to bottle.

I'd love to know what you think.

Questions, answered

Before you join the waitlist.

When does Patchel launch?

Mid-to-late June 2026. Waitlist members get a 24-hour head start before we open to the public, plus 10% off launch day. We'll email you the exact date a few days ahead.

What happens after I join the waitlist?

Three things. The occasional behind-the-scenes update as we get closer to launch, with first looks at the bag, the patches, and the people behind it. A 24-hour early-access email on launch morning with your 10% off code. And if you're one of the first 50 to order, your bag arrives with a free special edition patch. A one-time design we're not making again.

Will the patches actually stay on?

Yes. We use a high-grip hook-and-loop system designed for years of swapping. Patches stay put through nursery runs, playground sprints and the occasional puddle, but peel off in seconds when your child wants a change.

What sizes does Patchel come in?

Two sizes. The mini is for little hands and little outings. It's sized for a snack box, water bottle and spare jumper, perfect for nursery and preschool days. The midi fits A4. It's ready for reception, reading folders, lunchboxes and everything else early primary throws at it. Patches are sized so small fingers can handle them independently.

Which size should I pick?

If your child is heading to nursery or preschool, the mini is the right shape. Light on the shoulders, easy to grip, no oversized empty bag flopping around. If they're starting reception or already in early primary, go midi. It fits A4 reading folders, lunchboxes and a water bottle without straining the seams. A simple rule: if A4 needs to fit inside, you need the midi.

Does it have pockets?

Yes, four. Two side pockets on the outside (one for a water bottle, one for snacks or anything that needs a quick grab). A zipped front pocket for the bits you want to keep safe. One inside pocket for the smaller things that need to stay put.

What's it made of?

The bag body is recycled polyester, made from old plastic bottles. The webbing (top handle, strap adjusters, chest strap) is cotton. Durable, water-resistant, and kinder to the planet.

How much does it cost, and what's included?

The mini is £32. The midi is £39. Each one ships with a starter set of four patches, all included (no add-ons at checkout). Want to grow the collection? Theme packs are £12 (set of four) and single patches are £4. New themes drop with the seasons.

Is it safe for younger children?

The smallest patch is 3.5cm wide. No pins, no sharp edges, no buttons that pop off. As with any item with detachable parts, we recommend adult supervision for children under 3.

Will I be charged or committed to anything?

No. Joining the waitlist costs nothing and commits you to nothing. You'll only ever pay if you choose to order on launch day.

Be on the inside when Patchel opens.

Three hundred bags. One launch window. The first 50 orders get a free special edition patch.
